About MICWIC

The biennial Michigan Celebration of Women in Computing brings together students, faculty, and technology leaders from across Michigan and neighboring states to discuss the role of women in today’s computing and technology fields, share experiences and strategies for success, and explore issues common to women working in these fields.  It has been held 7 times (2005-2019) to date and is supported as an ACM-W Celebration.  It has been hosted as a 2-day event, creating the opportunity for deeper bonding for the student attendees.  https://women.acm.org/celebrations/

The goal is to increase the meaningful participation of women in the computing profession through a student-focused University event to build community and support and to break down feelings of isolation. Allow students to participate up to two times during a 4-year undergraduate program, thereby supporting, attracting, and retaining Women in Technology through their academic years.

MICWIC has also been aligned to occur at the same time as the NCWIT Aspirations in Computing award banquet to recognize high school winners.  The High School winners can then be invited to attend the MICWIC day corresponding to the awards banquet, to experience the programming and engage with the University-level students.

A career fair is part of the 2-day program which will align with and support the Internship program, facilitating greater awareness of Michigan-based companies and job opportunities for both internship and new grad positions.

MICWIC has been led by college faculty volunteerism.  MCWT stepping into this role, it will foster greater university/MCWT engagement, will increase the MCWT partner awareness and visibility into this program/experience, and will increase the awareness and visibility of the MCWT organization across the state.  MCWT will improve its marketing, sponsorship, and reach across the state through the already-established network/programs for MICWIC.  It will also increase the national awareness of MCWT, its programs, mission and vision.
