Michigan Council of Women in Technology Foundation
SOUTHFIELD, MICH., Aug. 1, 2023 – Having completed the transition with our new leader Dr. Orletta Caldwell, I would like to take a few moments to reflect on the incredible ride it has been over the past 5+ years in the role of executive director. What an honor and pleasure to contribute toward MCWT’s growth and impact in our Michigan community.
Our nonprofit grew significantly and we more than doubled our staff. We endured the Covid pandemic and learned how to connect with our constituents during challenging times. We overhauled and modernized our website and completed the first phase of a data centralization project.
A few of the accomplishments I am proud of include:
– Increased our partner community by 60%, with 143 partners now engaging with us
– Increased programming across K-University and Career & Leadership sectors from 9 to 23 programs – several with virtual delivery in addition to in-person learning
– Nearly doubled assets/cash on hand and are spending accordingly, as we deliver meaningful programs for current and future female tech leaders
– Raised MCWT’s brand awareness across our technology and education partners, as well as organizations doing business in Michigan
– Delivered fundraising events such as our Golf Classic and Gala that have set records each year
– Grew beyond Southeast Michigan and increased engagement in West Michigan and the Great Lakes Bay Region
– Strengthened relationships with alliance partners such as SIM Detroit, WomSA (Womens Security Alliance) and InspireCIO
– Continued to impact 4,000+ individuals annually with our programming
All of this transpired with your support! Our staff is incredible, are passionate supporters of our mission, and pride themselves on a job well done. Our partners and members continue to support us both monetarily and with resources. Our golf and gala fundraisers bring together our community for networking and fun while raising critical funds for our programs. Our students and scholars lean in to explore tech careers through us and leverage the support our ecosystem provides.
I also thank our MCWT leadership as these powerhouse women and men have aligned with our mission, committed to growing and moving the needle on impact for our Michigan community.
Last but not least are the volunteers – and this speaks to most of you reading this note. THANK YOU for your passion and dedication. I encourage you to continue on this journey with us.
I am excited to welcome and support Dr. Orletta Caldwell as she takes MCWT to the next level as our new Executive Director!
In my new, part-time role as Director of Partnerships and Strategic Alliances, effective Aug. 1, I look forward to continuing to work together as we strive to make Michigan the No. 1 state for women in tech.
As MCWT continues our great work of attracting, developing and retaining female tech talent here in Michigan, our partners and alliances are key contributors to our movement. Together we are more!
