Position Overview

The MCWT University Outreach Coordinator supports the University Mission program by facilitating and driving outreach activity across priority Michigan colleges, community colleges and universities. This role is well suited for volunteers who enjoy relationship- building, organizing information, and collaborating with others to ensure schools have the right support and follow-up. The coordinator will serve as point person for select school(s), working with student organizations at the school(s) to identify opportunities for interaction with MCWT.  This may include career fairs, tech club events or other student events.  Coordinators may choose which school(s) they want to work with in their region. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary MCWT point person for assigned Michigan colleges, community colleges, or universities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with student organizations, school contacts, and academic partners to identify outreach opportunities.
  • Identify and coordinate MCWT engagement opportunities such as career fairs, technology club events, student organization meetings, and other campus activities.
  • Organize outreach details, next steps, and follow-up actions to ensure assigned schools receive timely support.
  • Collaborate with MCWT volunteers and University Mission team members to align school outreach activity, avoid duplication, and keep efforts moving forward.
  • Track assigned school contacts, outreach status, volunteer ownership, and program activity using shared spreadsheets or tracking tools.

Volunteers in this role may contribute to one or more of the following sub-committee areas:

  • School coverage and contact management
  • Scholarship outreach and awareness campaigns
  • Volunteer gap identification and transition support
  • Program tracking and progress reporting

Ideal Skills & Experience

Ideal volunteers are relationship-focused, organized, and proactive communicators who enjoy connecting with students, student organizations, and academic partners. They are comfortable serving as a school point person, identifying campus engagement opportunities, coordinating outreach details, and following up to keep activities moving forward.

Time Commitment & Structure

As a MCWT University Outreach Volunteer, the estimated time commitment is approximately 10 hours/month for establishing communication, organizing events and follow up with MCWT team leads. Most of this effort can be managed virtually although some events are in-person.
