MCWT Hosts Record-Breaking Fundraiser – Golf Classic Raises Over $180,000

The Michigan Council of Women in Technology’s annual Golf Classic Fundraiser set new records for number of participants, total revenue and contribution amounts, number of volunteers, and support from sponsors.

The 2018 Golf Classic was held on July 23 and welcomed over 250 golfers who enjoyed the 36-holes of golf at Indianwood Golf and Country Club in Lake Orion, Mich. Over 30 sponsors supported the event including 20 companies who are new to MCWT. The organization had help from over 35 volunteers who assisted in planning and executing the golf event. The organization raised $188,000 in funds.

“In 2017 we far exceeded prior golf events and grew revenue and contribution by over 20% compared to the previous year,” notes John Bonapace, event lead and MCWT advisory board co-chair. “In 2018, we grew over 5% and raised a total of $188,000. It is extraordinary to see what is possible when so many generous people come together. I am amazed and I want to thank each of our stakeholders for their generosity.”

The success of the 2018 Golf Classic helps MCWT deliver programming for girls and women such as summer technology camps, robotics grants, website design competition, college scholarships and mentoring. These programs positively enhance the business environment and strengthen Michigan.

“The Golf Classic is instrumental in our fundraising objectives and helps us continue to make Michigan the No. 1 state for women in technology. It is well documented that increased workforce diversity leads to increased levels of innovation,” says Chris Rydzewski, MCWT executive director.
