GET IT Girls Go Hands On with Technology at FCA
A group of 50 girls from MCWT’s GET IT clubs visited FCA Information Communications and Technology where they got hands-on experience with machine learning, artificial intelligence, speech recognition, augmented reality and coding while learning how those technologies are embedded in FCA vehicles and IT systems.
The GET-IT program is an after-school team activity designed by MCWT to encourage girls to consider and ultimately pursue a career in information technology.
The field trip had four activities for the students to participate:
Smart speaker: Students built a voice-controlled personal assistant based on Google Cloud and Raspberry Pi.
Fruitbox: Students created a simulated vehicle communications network, using pieces of fruit, simple coding and an electronics development platform to activate lights and sounds.
Design/Build Vehicles: Using LEGO bricks, students designed and built vehicles and raced them to determine which was the fastest.
Scavenger Hunt: Students solved a series of riddles using the in-vehicle and advanced safety and security technology in FCA vehicles to find the answers.
FCA CIO Mamatha Chamarthi spoke to the girls and shared her personal journey in information technology while encouraging them to pursue a degree and ultimately a career in IT.
