MCWT Names Dr. Orletta Caldwell its Executive Director

SOUTHFIELD, MICH., May 3, 2023 – The Michigan Council of Women in Technology Foundation (MCWT) has named Dr. Orletta Caldwell its executive director. Caldwell replaces Chris Rydzewski who is transitioning to the role of development director, working closely with existing and new partners and strategic alliances to further build the organization.

“Dr. Caldwell’s career is steeped in uplifting women, championing diversity and prioritizing education for people of all ages,” said Rydzewski. “Her commitment and expertise will lead MCWT into its next phase of positive impact as we work to make Michigan the No. 1 state for women and girls in technology.”

Caldwell’s career spans both nonprofit consulting and education. She spent 15 years strengthening grassroots nonprofits as the CEO of Beyond Existing Enterprises, served as assistant professor at Grand Rapids Community College, led Camp Baber as its executive director and Tech Soup as a program manager. Her history of volunteerism includes supporting organizations such as the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan, Metro Detroit Council of Christian Churches, the Urban Renewal Commission for the City of Colorado Springs, Association of Gospel Rescue Missions, and Southfield Michigan’s Downtown Development Authority.

Caldwell earned a Bachelor of Public Affairs from Wayne State University, a Master of Science in Management from Cardinal Stritch University, and a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration with a focus on nonprofit management from Walden University.

“I look forward to bringing my nonprofit leadership and education experience into this role at MCWT, helping to advance our mission of inspiring and growing women in technology,” said Caldwell. “While significant progress has been made, it is time to accelerate the number of women and girls who benefit from robust STEM education, and empower new paths in technology in Michigan, contributing to innovation and a much stronger regional economy.”

Caldwell will lead alongside MCWT President Jill Maiorano, Vice President Grace Hansen and the MCWT board of directors.
