MCWT Scholar, Jenna Sultes shares her success story on how she has been able to grow into the MCWT community and continue her engagement as a former scholarship recipient.
As a student in technology, I was affected in a way I was not expecting. Like many of you know or are about to find out, women studying technology are vastly outnumbered in the university setting. I’ve had more than a few classes where I was the only woman in the room. And that can be alienating and it might even cause someone to wonder ‘do I really belong here?’ But I know the answer to that question.
Recently I attended the MCWT Executive Connection Summit. The work of MCWT backs many initiatives but the one that stood out to me that day was representation. Representation of women in technological fields is important because a person can’t aspire to a career if they can’t see themselves doing it.
So spending that day with 900 people, most of whom are women, all with occupations in one technological field or another, unequivocally answered the question that ‘Yes, we belong here and we’re not going anywhere.’
The tuition provided by the scholarship program has allowed me to fully concentrate on my academic studies and my career without the loom of financial burden overhead. But MCWT has given me so much more than that.
MCWT has provided me with the tools I needed to ensure that the tuition is put to good use.
