Software Engineer Reflects on Growth with MCWT Mentor

Learn more about the impact of MCWT’s Ignite! Mentoring had on Tatiana Duggan. This connection has led Tatianna to accomplish her goals and share her success story with MCWT and other young girls in tech.

I was matched with my mentor Jane Losensky, who is a software development team lead at Quicken Loans. Jane had the exact background to help guide me. Instead of just feeding me her resume and experiences, Jane took the time to listen and ask questions that allowed me to learn things about myself. She helped open my mind to career opportunities I felt were out of reach.

Jane took the time to introduce me to professionals within the IT space. Her advising helped my career and pushed me to further my education. I was interested in going back to school for a master’s degree, and Jane quickly introduced me to the Director of Employer Relations for the School of Engineering and Computer Science at Oakland University.

The director assisted me with establishing a relationship with the chair of the industrial and systems engineering department. By having direct access to the chairperson, I could discuss my background and determine which program would allow me to grow the most as an analytical professional. Now I am a master’s student at Oakland University studying systems engineering.

I find that I constantly apply the concepts and skills that Jane equipped me with. My mentor helped me to understand that I must be persistent and intentional with networking, and she showed me all the qualities that I hope to embody when I am in a leadership role within my own career.
